This temple is called the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh which serves to worship God in its manifestation as the creator and protector. The temple has been built to implement the concept of Kahyangan Tiga (temples of three nirwanas) that has been introduced by Mpu Kuturan in the 11th century. These theree temples are build in every village to worship God of Brahma (the creator ), God of Wishnu (protector) , and to worship God of Siwa (destroyer) . The aim is to unite the people to worship the Almighty God.

Pura Desa and Puseh Batuan was built in the Isaka year of 944 ( 1.020 AD ). It is similar to other temple in Bali, there are several buildings on the first yard of this temple such as Candi Bentar, Bale Kulkul, Bale Agung, dan Bale Gong. In the second yard, there are some buildings such as Sanggar Agung, Gedong Agung, Ratu Ketut Petung, dan Ratu Ngerurah.

In the Pura Puseh, there are some different in the second yard (inner part). The buildings are Sanggara Agung, Metu Tumpang Lima atau Tujuh atau Sebelas, Ratu Made Jelawung, Sedahan Pengrurah, Gedong Pertiwi, dan Batur Sari.
