Tanah Lot Temple is located in the Beraban Village, Kediri, Tabanan Regency. That is about 13 km west side of Tabanan City. This Temple can be taken approximately 30 minutes from Kuta or approximately 1 hour from Denpasar City by car.

Tanah Lot Temple as a Tourist Destination

The uniquely of Tanah Lot Temple that located on top of a ± 300m2 rock which is separated from the main land. During high tide it would seem as though this rock floats on the sea surface. Tanah Lot Temple can be reached directly on foot at low tide. Many tourists take advantage of the location of Tanah Lot to capture the sunset moment. Otherwise during the day still look beautiful scenery especially on a sunny day. When low tide, on some rock loopholes around Tanah Lot temple there are some snakes with black and white stripes skin and purified by local people.  Balinese believe that the snakes belonged to the God and acts as a guardian of Tanah Lot Temple. just below the Tanah Lot Temple are freshwater springs and it appear at low tide.  Tourist can used that purified  water for drink or just to washing their face.

As a tourist destination, the Tanah Lot Temple has a good facilities and infrastructure. Some garden laid out neatly so tourists feel comfortable to enjoy the charm of Tanah Lot of distance. Some art shops that offer a variety of Bali souvenirs also available along the main road to the location of Tanah Lot.

In order to provide additional entertainment for the tourists, some attractions are shown by the local people. Among them are: Kecak dance performance at evening, large snakes (non venomous snake species) and bats that can be used to take pictures and capture the moment at this place.

The existence of Tanah Lot Temple for Balinese

For Balinese, Tanah Lot Temple is a Temple of Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa (God Almighty) in its manifestation as the “Baruna” God, the God of the sea. It also has a function as a shrine to worship the greatness and glory of Dang Hyang Nirartha. The Ceremony (piodalan) are routinely performed in this temple on “Buda Wage Langkir” (as a Balinese calendar system) which takes every 6 months or 210 days. At that moment all the Hindus in Bali will come to prayer for begging of safety and peace.
