In Bali, coconut oil is more than just a cooking ingredient. It is a cultural heritage passed down through generations. Known locally as “lengis tandusan,” this traditional coconut oil is made by grating fresh coconuts, extracting the milk, and slowly cooking it until it transforms into a rich, aromatic natural oil.

Over time, traditional coconut oil has been gradually replaced by palm oil, which is more practical and affordable. However, in some villages, local communities continue to preserve this tradition, producing coconut oil manually. For them, it is not only about income, but also about maintaining identity and local wisdom.

Traditionally made without complex industrial processes, coconut oil offers a more natural quality with a distinctive aroma. Joining this workshop is not just about learning how to produce coconut oil, but also about appreciating a process that has been preserved for decades.

This workshop will be guided by a traditional “lengis tandusan” maker who continues to preserve Bali’s coconut oil-making heritage. With years of experience, you will learn every step of the authentic process, from selecting quality coconuts to producing pure coconut oil.

Activities        :

  1. Selecting and harvesting coconuts
  2. Peeling the coconut husk
  3. Grating coconuts to extract coconut milk
  4. Cooking the coconut milk
  5. Separating oil from coconut residue
