Balinese Wayang Kulit is a traditional art form that serves as a medium for learning about culture and life values. This performance combines visual art, literature, movement, and sound, with stories drawn from classical epics such as the Mahabharata and Ramayana.
Through this program, participants explore how performing arts are used to convey moral, social, and spiritual values within Balinese society.
As times change, Balinese Wayang Kulit continues to adapt in order to remain relevant to modern education. Artists create characters and narratives suited to students’ ages and learning objectives, while preserving the cultural values and local wisdom at the heart of this tradition.
In this workshop, participants take part in experiential learning with local artists, discovering the process of creating Balinese shadow puppets from material introduction and crafting techniques to understanding the symbols and character meanings.
The activities encourage learning through observation, hands-on practice, discussion, and reflection. At the end of the session, each participant brings home their own handmade puppet as a souvenir and personal reflection.
