Developing an Indonesian coffee plantation business has very promising prospects. Apart from Bali, other regions that provide opportunities for coffee business development are West Java, Central Java, Aceh, North Sumatra, South Sulawesi, Flores and Papua.

What businesses have the potential to be related to coffee? In this blog, we want to share various business opportunities related to coffee plants and beans that can be carried out. Whatever your interests, hobbies, and passions, coffee provides business options. There are at least 13 businesses related to coffee that can be started.

Regarding land, Kintamani coffee has planting potential in 14,000 ha. Only around 7,000 ha is used, and about 3,000 to 4,000 ha is planted with coffee trees. Some farmers switch to other crops, such as oranges or vegetables, when freshly picked coffee beans are relatively cheap: IDR 5,000 to IDR—6,000 per kilogram. However, coffee provides hope and promising business opportunities as a strategic commodity with added value.

Coffee plantation and processing businesses that can be visited in Bali are Subak Tri Karya Nadi and Tri Guna Karya. Until now, for wet coffee bean processing, it has already had 12 workers.

Subak Tri Karya Nadi and Tri Guna Karya were formed in 2002 and are 2 Subaks out of 61 Subaks spread across the coffee plantation area (Figure 1).

Subak Tri Karya Nadi dan Tri Guna Karya berlokasi di Desa Catur, Kecamatan Kintamani, Kabupaten Bangli, merupakan 2 buah Subak yang berlokasi di Desa Catur. Luas lahan kopi dari kedua Subak tersebut pada tahun 2017 hanya 57,3 ha dan saat ini di tahun 2016 ini luas area perkebunan kopi sudah mencapai 75 ha.

Meanwhile, Subak  Tri Karya Nadi and Tri Guna Karya coffee processing uses wet processing (WP). The steps for processing the harvest of red-picked coffee fruit follow the commonly used stages, as shown in Figure 2.

The total production of wet coffee beans at Subak  Tri Karya Nadi and Tri Guna Karya reaches 50 tons annually. The resulting coffee beans are only sold to exporters and local roasters. Subak has not yet exported directly abroad.

Farmers do not have adequate market access and information. Hopefully, this opportunity can be utilized well by anyone who wants to build a new business.
