Fireflies (Kunang-Kunang) Tour is a ‘must see’ program during your trip to Bali. This insect is one of the unique interest tourist attractions in Ubud-Bali. Domestic and foreign tourists from several countries and origins are delighted to join this adventure every night. They want to understand the behavior and enjoy the fantastic light of this insect.
In Ubud, the fireflies can be seen in their natural habitat of unspoiled and unpolluted rice fields. The habitat is tranquil and far away from the crowd. You will learn the behavior and uniqueness of this insect. While enjoying the flashing light of fireflies, you will also hear other animal sounds, such as crickets, frogs, and geckos.
WHY FLASHING?
The flashing light of fireflies is made by the process known as bioluminescence or chemiluminescence. Through this process, the substance called luciferin ( in the abdomen) comes in contact with the enzyme luciferase and oxygen. The chemical reaction will produce a “cold light.” The air that comes into the abdomen will create a pulsating pattern for the flashing light of fireflies.
Fireflies are a member of the Lampyridae family. You can find them in the rice fields, marshes, and wet forests that give them plenty of food for their larvae. There are more than 2,000 species of fireflies that you can find all over the world.
Fireflies flash has several functions: to recognize each other, to give a sign for their group, to carry on a flirty dialogue, to defend, to send the danger alarm, and even for hunting.
FIREFLIES TOUR PROGRAMS:
The location of fireflies is approximately 1.5-2 hours from Kuta, Nusa Dua and Denpasar. If you are staying in Ubud, it takes only 30-40 minutes.
The tour starts with dinner in a local restaurant at 6 pm in Ubud. An a la carte menu will be served with a choice of chicken, fish, or duck cooked with Balinese spices. You will be guided to the location of the fireflies at 7:30 pm. The tour continues to see the fireflies through the trees and rice fields until 10 pm.
With their beautiful flash, fireflies give you a unique experience on your trip to Bali. The trip continues to come back to the hotel and free programs.
